The role is a great opportunity for someone keen to sharpen and challenge their predictive modelling and data analysis skills as they apply to insurance pricing for a variety of business lines.

Key duties (including, but not limited to):

  • Check quality of all data used by the pricing team and raise any issues and required improvements with the data team
  • Produce ad-hoc reports to support decision making, you are expected to familiarise yourself with data warehouse and write own SQL queries
  • Help improve on existing suite of technical performance reports; this involves querying various data sources; cleansing, transforming and merging of data; and production of summary tables and charts in Power BI (no prior DAX experience is required but it’s preferred)
  • Train statistical/machine learning models to predict frequency and severity of claims following industry best practice
  • Explore the predictive power of a wide range of data assets available from internal and external sources to improve on the accuracy of technical models, this will involve monetising the benefit of the improved accuracy and comparing to the cost associated with the use of these data assets
  • Maintenance of existing pricing models/rating engines; this will involve working with Earnix, Radar and similar platforms; understand the current setup and make changes as pricing strategies, underwriting rules and predictive models evolve over time
  • Any additional duties and responsibilities that may reasonably be expected to be undertaken in accordance with the role

Qualifications required:

  • University Degree and/or relevant professional qualification
  • Part-qualified actuary or qualified through relevant work experience

Experience required:

  • Fluent exploring SQL data tables and data warehouse and writing own queries
  • Strong predictive modelling experience, including both traditional GLM modelling and machine learning algorithms
  • Fluent with Python (or R), to maintain and improve on existing scripts
  • Fluent in creating summary tables and charts ideally in Power BI
